Author Topic: Windows vista factory reset?!? How do I do it!  (Read 1582 times)

I'm trying to get my older sisters computer back to factory settings but I can't figure out how to. Its a dell inpiron 530 with windows vista home premium. Right now I tried startup repair(not sure what it is...) and it just has an "other user" log in and I can't figure out how to login.

boot up with windows disc and press f11 rapidly. there should be some sort of "install OS from disc" or something. press that, follow instructions.

I don't have a windows disc.

can't do it then
I never needed a windows disc when I cleared out my other computers. I just want to delete all the crap thats on the computer not reinstall windows or whatever.

well to reset it to factory settings you must reinstall windows. if you just want to delete useless files clear out mydocs and pictures and stuff

How can I get rid of all the viruses they got on it then?

jesus

after the bios constantly tap f8 and select safe mode with networking.

http://malwarebytes.org

install it
full scan it
quarantine the viruses.

if it doesn't work because stuff in safe mode, check the bottom of your laptop for a microsoft windows code (if desktop just look around) and don't tell us, instead go out and buy some blank dvds and go on a good computer and download an OS disc with windows vista home premium on it (tell me if malwarebytes doesn't work and i'll get you a link to a legit dvd without codes, that's what the microsoft certificate is for, to provide you with a product key, use the product key that's on the sticker.)
and boot from dvd to reinstall vista.

just have your drivers ready when you reinstall, because you don't have video drivers networking or any of the sort after reinstallation.
how you're going to get the drivers is your problem.

do they even sell computers without the OS disk?

seems like a rather critical component to not give someone

the last three computers i've gotten over the last ~10 years have come with install discs, though they are required to give your windows code

Some have a built in recovery program that formats and installs from a recovery partition
