Why are people such richards to freshmans?

Today was my first day of High School. I had no problems, that and I am about as tall as all the seniors but I was hanging in the freshman crowd. I have a class were there's only like two freshman and the older kids were nice. At my school they only start stuff with you if your a immature little prick. I'm quiet so that's probably why they didn't have issues with me.

In my school, whenever we had an assembly, every grade sat in a separate section of the gym, and at the beginning of every year, we had an assembly.
At the beginning of my senior year, several seniors brought bulk bags of bouncy balls, distributed them to several other seniors and juniors, and at the end of the assembly, threw them all at the freshman area.

Seeing hundreds of balls bouncing on one room is quite a site.
Though several people were hurt and the principal was pissed

Ever consider it's a brainwashing technique to force you to unconsciously join their army of upperclassmen? You spend several years training and then you recruit more members once you reach the Senior rank. Once you pass that, you must go fight the evil lobsters of Lost Atlantis in the far-off sea of Wert in the far-off land of Wertis.

In middle school I've heard six graders call 5th graders "small people"
They aren't even in high school. They're still kids and shouldn't really be calling other kids not that much shorter than them "small"
