Personally I dont even like meat. Ill eat fake meat some time but I absolutely hate real meat.
And I dont think there would be that many cows, the way you said "unrestricted" seems like you are implying the population would get out of control. That hasnt happened very many times before, with the exceptions of humans.

It hasn't happened because humanity has kept the food-chain in balance by eating all the surplus meat, the food chain has changed over the past god knows how long in order to suit our needs, if we suddenly stopped eating meat then stuff would get forgeted up and we would probably start drowning in cows.
Sort of like Minecraft prior to the animal breeding update

We are not "eating excess" we are breeding excess. If we let all the extra cows die off or eat them and leave ones that are raised naturally then we wont have much of a problem.
