Author Topic: Should I release AllOrb?  (Read 1344 times)

I currently have a mod I made called Server_AllOrb. It allows everyone on the server to enter the admin orb mode, regardless of whether or not they have admin. (However, people without admin have their names hovering over the admin orb.)

It's been asked a few times where the download for it is. Well, there isn't one. Why not? Well, it's not finished yet. It was always my intention to release it once I felt it wasn't completely abusable. For example, AllOrb allows anyone to get anywhere at any time. This includes during minigames.

The question to you is simple. Should I finish and release the mod?
This poll requires a quorum of 60% of 200 voters. The poll will run for three days.
As a result, if you actually want the mod to be released, I strongly suggest you point it out to your friends.

Perhaps have non-admin orbs a different colour, and move a different speed as well?

But this does sound useful for things like Freebuilds, or collaborative work.

No in all seriousness, this would be useful for a Private free build

not sure about a public one

I'm not sure what the voting options mean
but I think you should finish it before releasing it

It isn't an exploit if the server host knowingly allows it. Just make it clear what your add-on does, and it shouldn't be a problem.

I think Lugnut made a mod a while back that shows the name of the orb owner. Would work well in conjunction with this.

you can do this already with permissions

A different color is definitely a good idea, I'll look into that.
As for the speed difference, how much do you think it should be? (Assuming changing a camera's speed is possible.)

Presumably I would have the sense of mind to make the thing toggleable before releasing it.
I hope.

Yeah, I agree that it would be a good idea to finish it before releasing it.
As for the options, one is "Yes, you should release it after you finish it up", whereas the other is "No, you shouldn't."

permissions 1.3?

This is a much more specific mod and as a result has the potential to do things like controlling where the players can orb into.

Non-admin orbs already have the orber's name over them. I'm stupid, not stupid. Oh, wait...

Well done repeating what someone else already said.

I'm really not sure, to be honest...
Another way could make it non-admin orbs have a time limit? Like, you can only be in the orb for, say, 30 seconds before it warps you automatically, to help stop people abusing it? This however, could be changed or turned off in an RtB pref, for those that want it to be something different.

I don't quite see why a time limit would be necessary, but I could add it and just default it to off.

permissions 1.3?
sounds exactly like this to me-

brilliance

People seem to be voting yet not posting, so, bump.

Again, if you actually want this, I suggest you keep it alive. I'm not going to be bumping it again.

just finish it and release it

Don't worry about pure minigame restriction. Just add these two things and you'll be fine:
1. A global toggle for the host (and maybe super admins)
2. A minigame toggle for minigame owners. (or host/super admins if the minigame is either a game mode or dedicated)

You could restrict normal players to teleport inside bricks.
