Author Topic: Getting into Coding/Scripting/Whatever  (Read 1781 times)

Alright. For a while now, I've wanted to know what I need to learn to make stuff for Blockland and/or other things.

In this thread, these were listed as good sources to start from before getting into TorqueScript:

  • Python
  • Javascript
  • Lua

I'm probably going to start with Python, seeing as it seems like the best option to me. But, I would also like everybody else's opinion on what I should start out with.

(Might make a poll, too.)

Or you could just run away from Torque Script because it teaches the worst things possible.

If not, then spend a couple of years of your time getting to really understand computers and programming and stuff so you can avoid picking up bad practices from Torque Script.

Yeah, I'm still debating whether or not I should even get into Torque, seeing it has a name for teaching bad habits. Would any of the suggestions above suffice?

Make something with java or some c

torquescript works just fine dammit

on the other hand it has countless limitations that prevent people from doing cool stuff.

I've always wanted to model,

Maybe me and you could make add-ons in the future.

no. weapon "scripting" is not scripting. it's pushing buttons.

What bad practices? Could you explain?

um no it doesn't
in comparison to better languages, it's pretty bad

not really worst, but bad.

I wan't to do vehicles.

you don't really need to start with other languages

i ONLY know torquescript and do just fine (though i really want to learn others, dumb lazyness)

one neat thing about torque script is that you seem to learn sooner or later how you can make your code run the fastest it can because of how slow torque can be though
