47 pages, and only 1 crew member has gone insane so far, great

Soon we will be all like that Marine chopper gunner from Full Metal Jacket and kill everything on sight.

Anyways, go check on the knocked out friend.

You follow them to a doorway, where they stop as if about to go in. Before they can, a red light flashes and an alarm goes off.

: What's that?
: That would be uh, the alarm. It seems there is an emergency.
: Sir, reports say that a fleet of unidentified ships has materialized in this system.
: An entire fleet? Will our planetary defenses be enough to hold them off?
: Unknown, sir, but we should get to a safer place than here.
: What about me?
: You can get back to your ship if you want to get armed, or you can follow us. I'm sure you would prefer the former.

Go to your ship, bring scientists. Jump to safest area.

literally the first sentence of the backstory
whoops /facepalm

Would have asked "what do you believe is the connection to these artifacts with that event?" but it looks like its too late for that now.

Head back to the ship. If the fleet is there for the artifact it's best if you get away from it ASAP.
Also, if you have a sidearm pull it out. You never know if those random buggers will invade the station before you get off.

You manage to make it to your ship without conflict. The fleet has not arrived yet. Are you sure you want to just pusillanimous individual out and leave? You don't even know what they are or what kind of loot they may have.

Hmm, its sounds like someone is trying to rob us of a valuble artifact.

Move off to a position where you can flee easily without taking damage, but don't leave just yet. Ideally that place also will "hide" you from the fleet but that doesn't seem that possible in space. We should try to identify who's after the artifact if possible. And possibly loot the leftover remains of ships.

If the above is not possible just leave.

You move the ship out of the dock and into a strategic position. In addition, you contact the base to see if they know who these people are.

: Science base, do you read?
: Yes, loud and clear. The system's defense cruisers are moving into position. Were you planning on helping them?
: Not sure. What kind of fleet is this?
: Sensors indicate it's a fleet of toraai vessels. We saw them passing by us through the sector earlier, but they apparently took a sharp turn and went straight for this planet.

You go ahead and look up the toraai in the ships computer, since I know you people would ask that anyways.

TORAAI:
The Toraai are a race of insectoid expansionists. They commonly patrol space in large fleets of colony ships, looking for planets to destroy and colonize. They are hostile towards all other life, and are a threat to many human sectors. Their fleets use kinetic weaponry and travel in large numbers. Infantry-wise, the toraai favor close combat boarding instances.

They seem like nice people.

Actions?

Let us flee. Bring the scientists and the artifact.

We don't want to face an entire fleet.

Jump towards a friendly sector or fleet that has hostile or territorial policies towards the Toraai.  Send them a call saying that you noticed them in your previous coordinates.

OR

Attempt contact and possible screw yourself over.

"excuse me but you seem to have interrupted our progress"
"lol we don giv fuk *pew pew*"

yeah we should do the first thing

dock again and send some people inside, then fight them inside the base and in space

I would assume we had some sort of torcreep that was designed to penetrate a ship and release deadly neurotoxins. I guess will need a larger can of RAID. Anyway a guy deliver the arifact and have him be covered by two other guys.
