Stay until the station and the ships start engaging. If enemy ships break off to attack you gauge the situation (enemy ship stats, weaponry) and decide to leave based on that.

There's no reason you should abandon the station and the artifact before you see the fight begin. The station's firepower may be enough combined with your ship to ward off these attackers.

Two small toraai vessels break off to intercept you from your position. Their weaponry is identified as kinetic, and they both have 15/15 HP and 8/8 Armor.

Have David create instecticide grenades.

i hold a grudge against any kind of bug.
what do you expect?

Although they're weak, they have strength in numbers.  Don't engage.
Avoid them, because if they board the ship, you'll be in a lot more trouble.

Your options are:

1)  Attack them at a distance and destroy them before they board; risk provoking reinforcements.

2)  Try to outmaneuver them, and jump when available; risk them boarding you in the process.

In other words.  Do NOT let them board.

Send Ulris alone to have a samurai showdown with the captain.

Fire all cannons on one ship.

Or maybe hail them

thats cool too

Handle the closest ship first and try to position yourself so that one enemy ship is between you and the other enemy ship so they can't both pummel you with fire.

Then engage the ship in between, all weapons firing. Ideally while moving into position but if that isn't possible then just weather the initial fire.

You attempt to hail them, but they do not respond, as expected of the toraai.
Maneuvering so that their ships line up, you fire upon the closest one.

All it takes is your shrapnel cannons to demolish the vessel.

The other one fires back, but half of it's shots are blocked by the wreckage of the first ship.

You are now down to 20/22 Armor+Shields, and 25/30 HP.
1064/1080 shrapnel ammo remaining.

Circle around and shred the other one.

loving yes, tactical space combat

Pummel the other ship with all you got while circling around the wreckage, then check on the stations status.

Once again, the shrapnel cannons are all it takes to demolish the ship.

The space station is not under any threat, and is currently firing ordnance into the fleet. Close by, there is a human frigate tied down by three heavier toraai ships.
