I don't see how that is relevant since it's unclear that this story is following an eldritch approach. It's not an absolute law of fiction.  Stop your bellyaching.

The artifact appears to be to be a white, cube-shaped object. On each of its nine sides are different strange patterns, and on each of its ten corners is some sort of counting system from 1-10. Something seems very off about it, but you can't really put your finger on it.
