Author Topic: Why does my external IP change?  (Read 635 times)

While I was trying to set up my terraria server, I noticed that my external IP (according to whatsmyip.com and google) changes just about every day.
Why is that, does anyone know?

Because your router went down or your ISP decided to swap it.

Your router tends to keep the same IP even if it goes down.  It just happens sometimes.  It's happened to me a few times already lol.

You probably have what's called a dynamic IP, which is renewed on a daily basis. Ask your ISP to have it changed to a static IP.

Yep, same as me.

Every time I disconnect and reconnect on the network icon thingy on bottom-left I get a new IP. Same case in a restart.

Is that why I can't make my terraria server? 'cause I heard you gotta have a static IP to host.

You need to Port Forward which includes setting a static local IP.
