I've been so unfortunate, that I've had thoughts of killing myself.

Look, don't kill yourself ever. I can truly relate to you on this because there's been 3 Self Deletes in my family due to alcoholism. And I can only tell you that Self Delete will bring more pain and suffering than you intend. There are people out there who loving love you, and I'm sure your dad did as well. He wouldn't want you to take your own life. Live and thrive. My dad is also only 45 and happens to be one of the few in my family who didn't get the alcoholism genetic that's been the cause of so much grief in my family.
