Author Topic: I'm $91 in debt  (Read 2093 times)

I''m pretty sure this is just a bank error, but with a debit card im $91 in debt. And for those who don't know, debit is not credit. Credit is where you use money you don't have to buy things with the plan of paying it back. Debit is stricly the money you have only. So the fact I'm $91 in debt doesnt make sense.

How is that even possible

Definitely get in touch with your bank lol.

Got a debit card myself (one of the Visa-based ones). Credit cards seem like a steep path.

You could be overdrawn, if your bank allows for that. You don't have any charges that could have caused this?

Quite a few banks have a limit to how much you can go over on a debit card (I think my sisters is $400 or so)

Wow, I read that as $91k in debt lol.

The fact that it's 91 dollars instead of 90 makes my mild OCD hurt.

You can overdraw off debit cards under the assumption you'll end up putting cash in the bank later. It's mainly to keep your card from being declined if you need to buy something. There's usually a fee associated with it too, so don't do that. But yeah, if it's a mistake contact your bank. Otherwise, sucks, pay the $91 and move on with life.

That's pretty dumb, why would they allow you to overdraw a savings/debit account

Because a debit isn't anything like a savings, a debit card is checking. Its meant to be spent regularly  unlike savings.

Oooh I see

You should keeping a record of everything you buy.

Most banks keep a tab for you.

My statement shows what I spent and where I spent it, which i'm pretty sure every bank does.

Yeah there should be a detailed transaction log. Most banks let you view this online.
