its because people originally called it soda pop. in indiana they say "coke" instead of soda for some reason, no matter what type of soda it is.

in the east here we say soda

I say soda and/or pop. But sometimes I say tasty drinks.

handicaps is what they are
it's soda
I don't even live near the west coast

At least that makes sense, because Coke is a brand name for cola which is just a more specific kind of soda, the most generic soda at that. So yes, that makes sense. Pop I don't get though.

Most kids in PA say soda so i dunno where they got the west coast thing from

Pop I don't get though.
they used to would always be in glass bottles with the metal caps
removing the cap: pop

ok maybe its just michigan
but everyone says pop
Pop I don't get though.
but i just explained it lol, at one point it was soda pop and then idk people just broke it down or something

"west coast trash"

everyone on the east coast says it you forgets

Look on the Wikipedia page for soda. Demographically it's more popular here in the west. However, "pop" is becoming less and less frequent. I only hear adults from the southeast say "pop" anymore.

While "soda" is a deprecated noun in chemistry referring to a sodium compound, it's not only obsolete but only scientific allowing it to be used in common language

Well you didn't REALLY explain it other than "it used to be soda pop" which isn't really an explanation because the "pop" still had to coem from somewhere.

I've had glass-bottled sodas. They don't pop.

Exact same explanation. Pepsi is also a brand of cola.
