you would have to make it in a way that the grain is horizontal, not vertical. Start over and cut the wood in the opposite direction. after that you'll need to sand it well and put some kind of resin or waterproof paint over it. if you're feeling ambitious you can cover it in some kind of silicon.

or you could use the wood as a negative, create a plaster mold with it, and create carrotS FOREVER
