Author Topic: So much for it being a "private" chatbot...  (Read 1495 times)

Some time ago, back when I still did anything for CJrocks17, I rewrote a new chatbot for him from the ground up. He said he was going to keep it private and I know for a fact that neither sh0ckthealien nor myself have released it. Shows how much CJrocks17 values his word.

Anyway, I've kept count of how many times I've been asked to fix a chatbot which was totally not mine yet actually was. The number of people who have redistributed the thing under their own name is staggering, and some of them are cripplingly bad find-and-rename edits for "Xalbot" to "whateverbot".

In fact, I made a new chatbot to give to people just to avert this catastrophe. Its second line can be edited to change the name of the entire bot without having to force me to rip out my liver down the road.

Then I was asked by someone to fix it because their friend had done a cripplingly bad find-and-rename edit on it when there was clearly a comment saying that you could change one word instead of the entire mod.

TL;DR: People go to ridiculous lengths (and do it badly) to get their friends to believe they're decent scripters.

Maybe I SHOULD start signing my mods, this is getting ridiculous.

And you think that that wouldn't get find/replaced too?

Hit him with a lead pipe.

why is this in offtopic

Because your chatbot is the only obtainable and decent one around. Don't tell me you never expected people to grabby-hands at it.

No matter how hard you try to hide your signature if at all, it will be found and erased by people. Or replaced, depending on the person's IQ.
Yeah, sometimes the tinkerings go wrong and people have to ask the creator to fix it. Common sense 101.

Not to sound rude but this happens with any "private" mod of that sort and generally shouldn't be past annoying unless some dumbrichard decides to coin it.

I always ban people who use the chatbot because they always end up using it to spam.

when i used to play roblox (shut up) there was a train script in freemodels that when you used it it said "train made by richardsinmystarfish69!" and if you tried to delete where it said that, the script would crash and not work. I dont know if its something that can only be done within roblox, but try doing something like that?

You should have just told him to make his own. Chatbots (basic ones, anyways, which I'm guessing is what you made) are incredibly easy and widely used as a first project to learn scripting. I've even seen a tutorial which gave you working code, you just changed the messages it detects and replies with.

I prefer to have a little fun with them. Axolotl came on my server with a chatbot that had an eval feature. It only replied to his name, but I could call a commandtoclient chatmessage with the proper arguments, and make the chatbot think it was Axolotl telling it to do stuff. So I made him leave the server or crash or say things

But yeah I made one of those markov chain chat bots (made mine before it was cool /hipster) that learns and speaks back server-side. It has a client-side speak feature but I've only rarely used it, and only on servers where I know people want me to.

Because you didn't know jack stuff about how the script worked

i just ask people to disable their chatbots or get banned, do you really need a script to say "hello" whenever someone joins?

i want one of those but im too stupid to make one ;-;

when i used to play roblox
used to be a furry
used to like mlp
used to play roblox

you're on a roll mang

eventually "used to be male" and "used to breathe" will come in.

most likely. I was like, 10.

I got a better idea

stop adding to the everlasting supply of blockland chatbots

Oh My God.
I haven't been on BL in months, nor the forums, but when I saw this I flipped.

Dammit Xalos. I NEVER released. There are MANY times when I flipped out for others having the bot. I don't know, or care (anymore) how it got release, but it was NOT ME. Idiot. God dammit, why are you so hard on me? Jesus dude.

Anyway, sorry for major bump...
