I'm a noob at AoT. Can anyone give me some advice?

I recently started playing AoT, but i have no idea what to do. As far as i know you kill things and get gold to buy stuff, and that's it. I've heard about quests, but i have yet to find one. Advice?

As far as I know there aren't any "quests" as you would normally see them in a game like, say runescape; but there are still many things to do, the map is huge.
