It's an extendable joint to ensure it looks good while in a normal pose.  Really, I could've done better, but it works for what it is.  And since it has so much adjustability it's easy to hide, however I wanted to make sure I didn't make the legs seem too short in the action shots.

so one of the chest flaps on the MG Turn A fell off into the drain...was able to retrieve it but now the hinge is broken and I probably won't be able to do this OPPAI MISSILE-esque attack thing anymore.

It's fine, as long as I don't take the left missile boob silo out it'll stay there. I don't plan on doing the missile silos open like that anyway, I'd still have been paranoid of breakage.

Yeah I usually don't use gimmicks like that.  For example, on my HT Iron Man, some stuff happened where the seller bought it opened, and one of the missiles was missing from a separate arm attachment thing, and I realised how little I'd actually be using it.  The electronics on one of the arms doesn't work, either.  While that bums me out a bit, I, again, will only have the electronics on every now and then, and turn them off within accouple of minutes.

I ended up only building the feet on Monday, so I'll be building the legs and waist today.
