I have 142 Gundam-related wallpapers set on a cycle...the majority are from Unicorn or 0079, and I tried not to have any SEED/00/AGE because of my general disdain for the series rather than disliking the mechanical designs (because I don't dislike them).

Honestly, my favorite is G Gundam.  It's super cheesy, but it's still really fun.

Depends on what you're into. G Gundam and Turn A Gundam what I'd recommend to someone who doesn't really like the "standard Gundam formula," which you will see for yourself after watching multiple series. I started with the original series, Mobile Suit Gundam, and watched the Universal Century timeline chronologically from there (the OVAs in between->Zeta->ZZ->Char's Counterattack->Unicorn->F91->Crossbone manga series->Victory). My personal favorites are Gundam/Zeta Gundam (I consider them one experience), Turn A Gundam, then a tossup between Wing, G, Victory, and X.

Stay away from SEED.

I think we're far more likely to have Guntanks and/or Catapults than Gundams.

Maybe Evangelions if stuff gets really bad.

As for GMs, call me a heretic but I liked the redesigned OVA versions better, like the GM Custom or GM Command. Luckily, the GM has many faces.
