Author Topic: what kind of specs does a computer for a dedicated blockland server need?  (Read 3571 times)

Contrary to your current belief, it does not overheat, wear out the hard drive, or stress the system. If you're attempting to run a server on a horrible laptop, you may stress the system.
There's a specific option to change what the laptop does when the lid closes.

The parts are cheap. My laptops hard drive died within a year and I was very careful with it and it was also a high end laptop.

Doesn't mean all of them are bad. Unlikely that a high end laptop would include a garbage HDD.

Well it did, and my brother's laptops hard drive also crashed within 8 months so it's not just me

My brother's laptop hard drive has power-on hours of 2.3 years, chances are you're getting horrible hard drives

My computer is 2 years old, with a AMD athlon II x4 635 quad-core processor, yet I can only hold 5 players without lag.
Thank god I have a server-grade Intel Xeon quad-core 3.1 GHz tower server, or else I couldn't host any servers at all. That processor's usage is 1% for every 50 players, so each core can hold about 750 players without any lag.
Your CPU is probably half as good as my PC's Athlon.

Dude set up a hosting service.

Dude set up a hosting service.
I already made a free one, and it was the second largest in Blockland. If you don't know how it ended, look around in 'Drama' for the topic, "Hosting Service-Terminated!".

Aw :(. Do you think you could ever make it again?

My dad says that I and Pacnet, my little brother, have to get an A- and above in all or classes for two marking periods in a row (1/2 of a school  year), and then he'll get us a dedicated server.

Do it. I will help you cheat

You can't tell him this information because he doesn't know what any of it means.

I have a good amount of ram for the computer now but I know for a fact the graphics card can't run blockland. Can I still host a dedicated server?
