Author Topic: Letting a 7 Year Old play a Rated M Game?!  (Read 3132 times)

Uh, isn't M meant to be 'recommended people under 15 parental supervision" ?
Or maybe it's just Americas stuff is different, I know PG is 13+ over there when it means like 4+ here.

I was playing way worse games when I was little, people need to toughen up these days.

No, it's 17+

And yes, I was playing games with stufftons of gore, not some sissy cod of dutee

uh

E is for everyone
T is for 14+ I think
M is for 17+
AO is strictly for 18+, but most game stores won't sell AO games

I see, I guess Americas rating system is really different to ours.
Here it's all like,
G - everyone
PG - 'parental guidence'(watajokelol) mostly for todlers and young children generally 10ish-
M - recommended people under 15 have parental supervision
MA - parental supervision required for anyone under 15 (in theaters)
R - 18+ no exceptions (though R rated games are banned in Aus, for reasons of stupidity)

I don't think the government rates our games, but a company does.

It's just that most US game stores consider the ESRB a de facto rating

Yeah, I think Australian rating system is like UK's.
The reason I can play TF2 is because I asked my dad if I could play a game like it - he said yes - and I turned sillygibs on, lol.

those are movie ratings.

those are movie ratings.
Ignoring the G and PG it's basically the same, MA is 15+, R is banned for the games and M is a letter that comes before N.
Though I've never really paid attention to ratings.

It doesn't.

And yes.

I've been playing Halo since I was 5 (2003).  Man those were good times back then.
I'm 14 right now and I allowed to really play any game.  I've been playing GTAIV for a while and it hasn't forgeted me up at all.

Though that kid asked for it so I actually think it's a good thing.  Even getting an XBL account at age 7 shouldn't be allowed.  Though I bet he used his dad's or mom's email or just faked his age on a different email.

God it's funny seeing that happen.

>whenever I want
>however I want
>whoever I want

I was "Allowed" to play M games at around 11-13 and that's fine as long as their not Multiplayer, I was a little young for CSS whenever I started playing it.

Edit: I was 13 when I started playing CSS and I had a mic, I was way too young to be playing it with a mic.

I was playing games like Quake 3 Arena since I was like, five.  And look at me, I turned out fine!
I remember playing Quake when I was really young my mom wanted me to stop playing it because you could gib the bodies on the ground. :/

Many years ago, my parents wanted to give me a present so they bought me Conker's Bad Fur Day due to the highly deceiving, childish appearance of the game. I was like 6 when I got it and I was hooked lolol

I remember when I was younger my mom was always against M games, but my dad and older brother didn't care. I usually played Halo with my older brother, sometimes alone. I just wasn't allowed to use a mic. Besides, when I was like 6, the majority of the rated M games were horror games...I didn't like to play them back then because they were confusing and gave me nightmares.

That's another thing, rated M games were more confusing for younger audiences than they were to older ones than they are now. Now, all you need to know is to run, jump, and shoot, then you're good to go.
