forget that.

Get a sword.

how do you expect you'll be able to actually use a sword without a. your master taking it b. someone seeing who you are c. carrying it around without looking suspicious?

There's no time for this!  Your master could be arrested at any moment!

Beginner's Spellbook. Can't breathe fire? Then make some with your hands instead. Would also be useful in the inevitable rescue-your-master scenario.

You buy the spell book in hopes you can learn/be of use in case of a battle. Your map has become blank since you have not purchased/explored the entire town yet.

Purchase the entire town

a. your master would take anything magic that you buy. Unless he won't because doing so is handicapped and you are deadly enough without it.
b.no one can see who you are. you have a robe on.
c.im pretty sure if there happens to be an armory in town people wouldn't find it suspicious that you have a weapon.

There is minimal shading, look harder.

You'd think that your master wouldn't mind you learning a few basic things. Unlike a physical weapon, you're less likely to cause any wariness.

[Basic Spellcasting - Chapter 1

Introduction: Magic is something that may or may not be a skill that is possible in some beings. It's often difficult to know if one even has the necessities of casting spells. Magic or Mana flows through those that can, and has differing effects on the body (physically and mentally). Those who have the lack of Mana will be unable to "create" manipulative energy. Since this is only a beginner's guide, covering history and functionality is unavailable. This book was designed to get some enthusiastic people to see if they are able to use magic.

Lesson 1 - Casting a Fireball

The first step to doing this is to find a safe, outdoor area where there is little chance of causing great damage to structures and the environment. It is recommended to start with some sort of target. The next step is to call forth your inner Mana. This is considered to be one of the more difficult parts, as saying so is easier than doing so. In order to conjure a fireball, say llaberif (La-bear-if) within  your mind and think of it appearing above your palm(s) or on the tip(s) of your finger(s). The intensity of the thought will determine how powerful the fireball will be, to a variable extent. (It varies from one person to another) All there is left is to give it some momentum and then you'll send it hurdling towards the direction. ---]

Not only is this an interesting read, it's also gets you excited! Learning magic is so useful!

llaberif is Fireball Backwards.

Because he should waste tons of time thinking up a nonsensical "amarth faeg!" or something along the lines.
