Author Topic: Still somewhat angered about the new shader update.  (Read 1654 times)

Yes yes, you've heard a million complaints now.  But I guess I'll put it from my side of the story.

About a month ago I ordered a new graphics card- a galaxy, the best one I could find for my not-so-uptodate computer.  25$, not expensive, which means not so good.  BUT,

this totally changed my gaming experience.  I can run most of my steam games now with atleast 30 fps and I can run TF2 at all highs (by saying TF2 I basically mean all source games, shaders and whatnot)

Forgetting about Blockland's shader update (and taking a break from it to wait for responses from Badspot to somewhat help people who couldn't have shaders like myself) I went back ingame to see that I could run the shaders and shadows.  BUT,

After loading a few builds and such I noticed that my FPS goes from a good 50 or so to a horrid 10.  On "low" settings for shaders/shadows.  Now, I guess this isn't really a thing to complain about, but I don't see how this makes sense.

Seeing how much of the BL community is/will/are indeed children, I don't see how they would enjoy spending much money (or have the intelligence of how to) on upgrading their computer.  But that isn't really the case I wanted to say.

If I can run most of my current games (especially from the source engine and such) on near-to full highs, I don't think it makes sense that BL should require more than that to run shaders properly.  It doesn't honestly make much sense to me, but I can't necessarily do anything about it.  I just wanted to say this quickly and see what people replied with.  Most likely hate, but I won't be checking this thread that often so I don't really mind the feedback.

Unless I said it before, I'm not very mad about this.  Just confused.  I imagine it will get "fixed" but I hope that BL in later updates doesn't require such a good GC, especially because the one I have now is the one I'll be stuck with for a while.

Also, this doesn't really seem like a kind of problem, so I didn't post it anywhere but here.  I will move it if it seems that necessary.

Just don't use shaders?
You can't run them, and if that's out of your control, you can't help that.

At least you can actually play the bloody game.

Just don't use shaders?
Dem be good even though I has Minimum only

I don't use shaders when I play. My framerate drops and whenever I switch out of blockland to my code editor the gui of the editor lags XD.(Shaders are cool though)

Very good point

Yes, they look very pretty, but they hardly make the game.

This is why shaders are off by default. Also keep in mind they're fairly new.

on minimum, i lag to death
on anything above minimum, everything glitches up
so i have to keep shaders off

already 5 posts is actually more than I expected to get in about twenty minutes.

I like the feedback so far.  It's interesting to know I'm not the only one getting this.

And like I said, I don't really feel like buying a 900$ alienware computer...

to play Blockland.

a $25 dollar simple graphics card with enough shader to run source games should be more than enough to run a game like blockland, but I suppose they will be able to lower it.

If they differentiated SHADOWS from SHADING, I'm sure I could run shadows fine.  Shading seems to screw me over, because on minimum it's only shading a no shadows and I get the same FPS as I do on low with shading and shadows (which is still only around 10 fps.)

I can run 170k bricks on high quality so forget you

blockland is obviously of a completely different class in both mechanics and possible professional polish than tf2

i expect it will be optimized further in the future but expecting them to perform the same is silly

regarding your point about kids not enjoying a game that doesn't run well on their computer: roblox

your computer shall be mine.

Very bad point.
I don't get why you all play on toasters.

I can run them on max on a 1920x1080 monitor. U jelly?

I can run them on max on a 1920x1080 monitor. U jelly?
Nop.
I can do same while forced 64x aa and 250 fps.
U jelly?

If i try to run on mininum i freeze up way too much to keep them on

1920x1080 40 k bricks max everything ~250 FPS

1280x768 40k bricks max everything ~ -1 fps
