Author Topic: 4th dimensional Rubik's cube  (Read 1594 times)

I have been doing some theoretical thinking about the 4th dimension, and even got my entire guitar 4 class in school to think about it, half stoned.  We confused the stuff out of the Orchestra kids, we use their room because Guitar is too cool to need its own room.  We talked about the Hypercube (4D cube), 4D spheres, and 4D pyramids.  Later that day, I had an epiphany-a 4th dimensional Rubik's cube.  I first drew out the hypercube, then segmented it proportionally to create what would be the 4D Rubik's cube.  That was the easy part, the hard part was figuring out how it moved.  I finally figured it out, then looked on the internets to see if anyone else had the same idea.  Turns out they did, and here is the link to a 4D Rubik's cube simulator, that's simulator, it can't actually create the fourth dimension because we are creatures of the third dimension viewing a deformed 3D object on a 2D screen.

Humans can't precieve the 4th spacial dimension, no known animal can.

So what is the fourth dimension exactly

Rubix cubes already confuse me.
A 4th dimensional Rubix cube would make my brain explode.

Space and Time are their own thing. But in a way time is the fourth dimension. We live in the third dimension, and therefor can see everything that is a dimension below us. We see three-dimensional objects, but our eyes kind of scan the area and we see everything in 2D. It's just that we have two eyes, and we estimate the depth.

The fourth dimension is being able to see all three dimensions at the same time. I'm not sure how to explain it, and to be honest I can't quite remember how it goes. I read a few things on Wikipedia and watched some videos on it and it made some sense at one point. It's a lot harder to understand a dimension above us.

to my understanding, there's a difference between "fourth dimension" and "fourth spacial dimension"

the latter being an infinite amount of infinitely expanding three-dimensional spaces 'next to' each other, as the third spacial dimension is an infinite amount of infinitely expanding two-dimensional spaces 'next to' each other.

and the former being "time" and not necessarily being in the sense of visual perception, but, more accurately, "comprehension"

but don't quote me on that

I believe there is an infinite amount of dimensions

I believe there is an infinite amount of dimensions
yes, that's a logical statement.

I believe there is an infinite amount of dimensions

If I remember correctly there are about eleven or twelve.

I believe there is an infinite amount of dimensions

Pretty hollow statement if you have nothing to back that up.

well, in this sense:

the latter being an infinite amount of infinitely expanding three-dimensional spaces 'next to' each other, as the third spacial dimension is an infinite amount of infinitely expanding two-dimensional spaces 'next to' each other.

there could be an infinite amount.

Not as if we could actually know, it's all speculation and it can only ever be speculation since it's literally impossible to test anything related to it.

Pretty hollow statement if you have nothing to back that up.
nth-dimensional theory which is exactly what it sounds like
just as there are infinite numbers, you plug in an infinite amount of numbers into dimensional equations
if i remember right, hawking plays around with it a bit in a brief history of time

I think the universe is a hyperblob (4-blob), where dimensions 1-3 are spatial, and dimension 4 is temporal

Notice how it's a hyperblob instead of a hypersphere, dark matter and energy like to stay in certain spots and cause the blob to contract and expand at random places
