To clarify the talk of FTL drives;
In our current understanding of the universe it is 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt impossible to travel faster than light, that is to move through space at exactly light speed of greater. We know this because as you accelerate something the amount of energy required to accelerate it further is squared, it reaches an infinite point singularity as you approach 0.99.. -> 1c.
Speculated FTL drives work on the principal of ripping up the "mesh" that is space time and stretching it. The solution is to use vast amounts of energy to modulate space-time in front of and behind the spacecraft, the net effect is literally shifting localized space around you to your destination and then releasing it. In EFFECT you move faster than light, you arrive at your destination before light from the same departure point arrives HOWEVER, you never move faster than light in your localized space bubble thus you do not break any laws of physics. You do not accelerate or decelerate, you simply shift.
