Author Topic: Terrain River v3 [Saved Released pg 4]  (Read 4490 times)

Here are some pics of about 2-3 hours of work so far. Its just a little river and a lake. Idk why i made it, i just feel like it. NOTE: It is NOT done! Yea, ik that the water sticks out, but that will be covered by terrain.

You can also post some pics of your terrain here cuz i wana see it and maybe i can get some ideas.

Also, inb4conan.

Thanks! And feel free to rate!

I decided that the river looked better w/o water, so i put a dam at the mouth of the river. I think it looks pretty nice. Ill get more progress pictures in a few hours.

:cookie: for being first to put that in op

honestly this looks rather ugly to me. The shaping of the lake looks too roundish and man-made/shaped, though its not too discountable as a natural lake shape. Probably looks bad because relative to the river size, its puny. I'd go for a rough 1:20 ratio between river width and lake diameter, though expanding the river slightly before hitting the lake is a good idea.

The river is fine, but the bottom doesn't slope out enough imo. However, not all rivers are the same, and not all have nice smooth sloping.
Also, the level of the river relative to the lake makes it unsure which way the water is flowing; I'd adjust the height of the lake to lower than the river, and then have a small waterfall drop or gradual sloping down to connect the two.

You also should have done peripheral flat brickscape before posting; it looks too ugly and incomplete without.

I can't give a rating with what there is here; when there's flat terrain I'll reconsider.

Ok thanks for the info on the lake, I completely agree with you. The lake looks rather ugly to me too. That will be re done in the next few days.

I like how I don't really have to talk terrain anymore now when Conan takes care of it all.

Erectin a river

see wut i did thar?

Progress looks great. Now that you have a more developed river shape I got a few suggestions.

Since the lake/reservoir is dammed you probably want to put it higher up as it should be a lot more deep than the river. Have you ever ben to a dam? Basically a smaller version of that. Add some steep brickscaping along the sides that gradually slopes down into the peninsula that the river curves around and you can have some interesting designs. Optionally you can go the canyon route and make all the sides steep terrain with a little flat terrain as it graduates down towards the river.

Makes me want to build a Dam/River complex right now :P
