Author Topic: My computer lags on all 3d games, Need Help  (Read 1472 times)

I have a few computers but I have this one really stubborn one that lags on all games that have 3d in any way even if it meets or passes the minimum requirements.

Now before you start posting random stuff here is what I have done to try and fix the problem already

what cpu/graphics card do you have in it

what cpu/graphics card do you have in it

I have a nvidia 8400gt (way more then star trek armada needs)

and a Pentium 4 3.2GH

I am not trying to run any new games, just old ones

Yeah I think even then you are getting out of date

Have you considered downloading more RAM?

Try running a magnet down your hard drive, it will clear lots of space for temporary files.

If your 3D Driver crashed, try updating/reinstalling drivers.
I remember once my 3D Driver crashed and I barely got 15 FPS on Minecraft on a GTX 460.

weird

my old PC had a Pentium4 3.6GHz and a 9800GT and it could run oblivion and blockland without lag

Bearing in mind that I know very little about computers and how they really work stuff...

Since you're trying an old game, have you tried playing it in Compatibility Mode?
Some old games just do not work with new OS's. I wouldn't put it as too unlikely that a game 12 years old, like Star Trek Armada might work better in compatibility mode. Even my copy of Star Trek Armada: II, which is a year younger isn't much better, and is rather touchy/glitchy.

Go to the shortcut for the game and right click.
Select Properties.
Then select the Compatibility tab.
Then toggle "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Then select Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

If that doesn't work, then have a fiddle around with the other options under "Settings" within the Properties window.

And then there are some old games that just don't run very well at all on any thing new.
Does the computer play any more modern games, that are known to run on the specs and OS you have?

Try running a magnet down your hard drive, it will clear lots of space for temporary files.
Ha ha

EDIT/SNIP
Everything i said was stupid and void because i didn't read the OP well enough.
