Author Topic: Your views on euthanasia  (Read 1289 times)

So, what are your thoughts on this controversial subject: euthanasia?

Only if there is no hope.

Its your choice. (Euthanasia = Self Delete)

I personally agree with it, so long as it is regulated.

Voluntary Euthanasia (The act of the person wishing to die giving consent) is fine in my eyes so long as it is done properly.
I see no reason why someone in such a terrible state as to have a terminal illness which is like to cause lots of pain prior to death, such as incurable and advanced cancers, or those who can not physically look after themselves in any way, due to being physically immobilised, shouldn't be allowed to end their own lives with help if they see no other way for them to live.

I know that there are cases of some people who are exceedingly disabled and can't live without specialist care or equipment, such as Professor Stephen Hawking, who has a disease similar to Motor Neurone Disease. But just because one person can happily live in that condition doesn't mean all other people can live in similar conditions or should have to.

I'm slightly less sure on my view of Non-voluntary Euthanasia. For the case of people who are Comatose, I don't have too much objection to their lives being ended, whether that is through actively ending their life, such as via the use of injection, or whether it is passive, such as removing treatment. I can be a little bit touchy when it comes down to Children, who legally can't give consent and therefore can't volounteer for Euthenasia. If the child has no chance and is just going to be in pain for however long left they have to live, then I think it should be allowed.

I think the biggest problem most people have with Euthenasia is either the difficulty of it's morality, where in the eyes of many it is no different to murder. But to me, despite the unfortunate rudeness of this brown townogy, I imagine it to be similar to putting down a pet animal.
The reason many put down an animal is not just for the sake of killing it. You put it down because keeping it alive puts it under great stress and pain. And even if it can live sometime with treatment, if it's in constant pain, then what is the point?
And other than that, I think many people believe it to be an act of "giving up".
But contemplate it for a moment. You've been physically disabled to the extent where you can only move your eyes. You can't move around, can't feed yourself, can't speak to others, can't interact or feel things, can't take yourself to the toilet. And if the option of death is given to you, you'll likely not take it within a heartbeat.
No one ever wants to die. It's an inconcievable thing, being dead. No one can really know what it feels like and look forward to it. And regardless of if you have nothing for yourself, you've still got family and friends. It is so difficult to voluntarily tear yourself away from those people.
Choosing to let yourself die, or to ask for help in dying, is not an easy choice.
If someone were able to make it off the bat, then there is a good chance they don't understand what they're contemplating.

In many places I find that Human Rights, as enforced by law, can be too much. They can give people rights when they deserve none. I will be enraged when I hear that it's against Human Rights to send a terrorist, who has actively killed hundreds of people, to a country where he will face his death.

While I don't agree that every person has a right to live, I do agree that every person has a right to die. And to steal that away from someone when it is all they have left is wrong.
Not all people are as strong as each other. And to force someone to live with a burden they can not bear, even with support, is not fair.
If you were to want to end your life, and you had a real reason to, and you knew what you meant, and you needed help with ending it, then I believe it should be allowed for it to be given. And the person who helps with the Self Delete should not be branded a murderer.

Yeah if they are in agony. Give them the mercy kill.

Morphine overdose them?

I would only want to be euthanized if I couldn't say "no" when asked.

as long as it's voluntary
