Would a password field be beneficial?

Yeah
Nah
Pointless, its like putting a safe in a safe.
Possibly

Author Topic: How come the key system didn't have passwords? (POLL)  (Read 1784 times)

Im just wondering how the key system works, how come we don't have keys + password? Is there a big benefit from this? We would have Keys with passwords, im not sure where the passwords would be registered, maybe the forums? Would this offer an extra layer of protection or is this just useless? Both Key and password could be retrieved by the e-mail retrieval method.

What do you guys think? I was thinking this was a good idea but now when I think about its not very good, what do you think? If a password field is beneficial is it too late to add one?

Another question I had was if the key system is from blockland.us or amazon? For some reason I have a distinct memory of the key generated on the amazon website, I dont remember anymore though.

Why?

So people can't use your key without knowing your password

Your key is already kinda a password
Why would you want a password for a password

Your key is already kinda a password

Think of it like this:
-Users keys get in the hands of - Everyone
-Change password: instant fix

Yeah thats what Im trying to figure out, the key is both the username and password basically but would having an actual password field be beneficial? I think it would but then that would be another thing we'd have to remember about.

I don't know why we don't just have a global account system for the website, forums, and game.

wouldn't this get slightly confusing should Blockland ever get on Steam?

I was thinking this as well, a login system on blockland.us which is just so the account can register with the Key (password as well). However this would require more work for badspot.

EDIT: Just use the forum account to register the password? We could have a main login site and tie the forum and main website together? (It would be less confusing). Maybe it should be Key system and Forum account only since the forums login is already made, if someone gets someones forum account then they could get it back via email as well as their key.

SO MANY POSSIBILITIES!

The key is product activation. Its there to prevent piracy. It doesn't need a password because its designed to be impossible to lose or guess unless you physically give it away.

I don't see a reason it would need a password. That is like putting your safe in a safe.

"putting your safe in a safe" lol sounds funny. This is what I am getting at also, the password field would REALLY only be beneficial if a ton of people got your key somehow, you could use your e-mail to reset the password and then enter the key and password on Blockland and BAM everyone else is gone. Not sure if it works like that though.

Yeah I get what you are saying, but in what instance would your key ever be released?

Passwords are easier to guess or steal. What you are doing is adding a useless layer of security that should never be needed in the first place, which actually just makes it easier to lose your key. All someone needs to do is find out your password and you could potentially get locked out. Chances are if you manage to lose your key, no password will help you lolol.

I think you got a bit mixed up, you need Key AND password. The benefit to this has been listed, the con to this is that you need to remember your key AND password. If you do get locked out you have the email as I have stated before. Its kinda balanced how this could be useful but hurtful. I think what we have now is fine but who knows.
