Author Topic: I shouldn't have been banned.  (Read 7980 times)

This isn't an obvious thing at all
i got it and i'm not particularly well read, i can't say for someone who went to middleschool in back water kansas but most schools force kids to read this stuff.

Just because you had to read this is school doesn't mean that every school had to.

Just because you had to read this is school doesn't mean that every school had to.
most schools read the same thing in the same grades. this is also over the course of like 5-7 years.

Up to the point where they can remember every quote even from some of his more obscure works?
The Black Cat isn't obscure, and it wasn't a quote, it was a major part of the plot

Edgar allen poe is read in grades 5-12 in the US, the person who reported him was probably a small child or, more likely, an overreactive helicopter parent.
or:
wasn't american
didn't know who he was
didn't remember that specific work
thought it was inappropriate even though they understood the reference

i think he totally deserved the ban, i would have reported him for it if i had seen it earlier too (i didn't get the reference either)

I honestly don't know what it is you have against me
I think it's cause you were one of those guys who knows that animals aren't people, and he's just brown townly annihilated about that.

afaik poe isn't just famous in america anyway
the second thing you said is basically the first thing you said, but with the addition of "small children"
The Black Cat is more than likely one of the specific works people hear about poe from
I can't disagree with the last one; I guess it was pretty inappropriate
animals aren't people
what?!

i had literally never heard of him until i was trying to find the steam profile of someone who had his name, obviously figured it out from the google results.

still, now that the discussion has run for a while, why (if at all) do you think it was unfair?

or:
wasn't american schools in 1st world countries read about the same literature, especially the famous stuff like Poe and Shakespeare
didn't know who he was doubtful
didn't remember that specific work if you read Poe's crazy stuff you will remember the particularly forgeted up stuff
thought it was inappropriate even though they understood the reference what a richard.

I've said at least once by now that I don't really think the ban itself was unfair, but specifically the length of it

you don't know stuff about the school syllabuses of other countries and don't act like you do lol

what, a week?

seems pretty consistent with the other bans he's been dishing out

yeah, I know, and that's sorta the problem

not that long ago people were complaining that he wasn't taking a hard enough line on people breaking the rules, and now he's going to far?

poor bloke can't win lol

it's human nature to complain about everything
