Author Topic: Slight Glimpse of Hope (Computers)  (Read 993 times)

For an undisclosed reason, I shut my laptop relatively hard earlier today. Now, I'm getting an I/O (input output) error whenever I try to start windows. I disconnected the RAM, Hard Disc, and Battery and then reassembled the computer, same issue. Bios is still recognizing all the components of the computer though. It does not give the option to start in safe mode. I am currently downloading a copy of DamnSmall Linux to try to boot the computer with.

Any help from anyone?

The force may have messed up the hardware. Get a new computer.

Maybe you didn't properly connect all the parts and you made the problem worse.

Did it cause any damage?
No ascetic damage, everything appears in order, not prongs are bent or the like.

Everything is screwed down to the computer's body, it would be unlikely that something is still not connected properly.

check for popped capacitors, or an IC in the mobo might be cracked.

...

wait wait what

Your first impulse is to completely disassemble your laptop and then re-assemble it?

um

okay

I'm not digging into the motherboard, the only thing that is accessible without making this a two day project is stuff I already tried. I'll probably walk it to the computer store tomorrow if it doesn't work.

Input output error is a hardware issue.

Yeah I thought that too.

If I can't get this to work I completely deserve it.

If it works I'm a lucky bastard.

Doubletoast

From what I can conclude right now, it's a hard drive issue. I probably forgeted up the write head from shock and bricked it.
