How does this laptop sound for school work/watching movies

So tomorrow I'm buying a laptop instead of building a computer (my dad said I'll forget it all up and waste 1000$) so I decided on the SONY VAIO SVE1511KFXW Notebook Intel Core i5 2450M(2.50GHz) 15.5" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 7550M. Not bad, heres the specs

- Watch some movies (54 movies go here)
- Do school work
- Program
- Bring it places
- Steam
- Garry's Mod (TTT Only)

So forums, whats the verdict? If bad, do post a link of a laptop thats <= ~700$

Also, did you mean it was a 5400RPM HDD? I would never buy a 540RPM disc lol.
