Again, I turn back toward Sgt. Hunt when the artillery starts again. Farther down the trench, a group of soldiers disappear into the explosive impact of an artillery round. I turn back to my right before the smoke clears.
As I turn back, a smoke grenade hits me at my feet and sends us into a cloud cover. Disoriented, I hold my MP7 in front of me and turn around and around. On my fifth revolution, I am tackled to the ground by a Syrian with a knife. A bandana covers his nose and mouth, but I can tell he's smiling as attempts to stab me through the throat. I quickly squirm out of his grip and roll to the right, the knife plunging into the dirt. His head turns to me with a furious expression as he lunges at me. I begin to crawl away with the MP7 gripped tightly in my right hand.
The Syrian lands at my feet as I stand up, stabbing me in the right foot as soon as he hits the ground. My steel toe boot deflects the blow and I kick him in the face before firing 2 rounds from my MP7 into the back of his head. His head and arms fall harmlessly to the ground as he voids his bowels and blood pours from the wounds.
I look back up to find two Chinese soldiers standing above me. One of them points to me, and shouts something in Cantonese before diving into the trench. His friend is about to follow when a round is fired through the side of his head. He falls to the ground behind the diver, and I raise my gun as the man hits me full force in the chest, knocking the wind out of me.
I fall backward and black out as my head hits the ground.
