Kurt Vonnegut once jokingly wrote that in the Bible Adam were the first anaerobic cells and Eve were the cesspools they thrived in, so in a sense they really are the mother and father of all life. I like what he did, making the Bible seem like a metaphor for what science states actually happened. Just thought I'd share that.
