Pretty sure the \c stuff is done client side, so it takes less data to send them. Use them if you can.

Just so you guys know, the \c# codes are just shorthand abbreviations for the most useful/common of the hex codes. I'm not sure about the order but they are ff0000 (red), 00ff00 (green), 0000ff (blue), 000000 (black), ffffff (white), ffff00 (yellow), ff00ff (purple), and 00ffff (teal)

They're defined in the blockChatText profiles.

Essentially you can, it's just that \ is automatically replaced with \\ (expandEscape).
