What's the harm in having a YouTube account?
It's the same as owning a Google account.

Ask them if you can get a gmail account without suggesting in any way that it would cause you to have a youtube account by default

No, it has to do with school. I get good grades but they want to see it again this year until I get Google and Skype, I have to wait for a week or two for my report card to come out.
