Friend giving good deal on iPod touch.

My friend is willing to sell his 32gb 3rd gen iPod Touch to me for $100


BUT, heres the catch


He was working out and something happened while now the iPod just displays a blank gray screen, nothing else.

He said he tried restoring it.

Not sure if its a LCD screen thing or if you just have to hold the home+lock button down to reset it.

Any ideas?
