Author Topic: I get to work on F-16's for a while  (Read 3350 times)

I'm in tech school right now. I have been since August 5th and will be until March 20th. I'm an avionics technician and my job is to work on RPA's/UAV's/drones. However, the Air Force doesn't have a specific RPA avionics course at the moment, so I'm in the F-16 class. I was pissed at first, but I do get a few months to learn and work on these things. I'll be working on practically every area of this plane. I'll also get to sit in the roosterpit and troubleshoot flight controls. I feel like I got the best of both worlds. I get to mess with a kickass fighter, but I work on newer technology when I get to the operational Air Force.

Anywho, I just thought this was neat.

I can imagine that being a pain in the ass. lol

I've heard that these newer planes use computers to keep stability, since they would tumble if they were flying the speeds they fly without them. I think it's the faster planes that fly past the speed of sound, but I'm not sure.

Im pretty sure that most all planes from the late 70s to the modern day have had some sort of stability algorithms (PID, etc) in place.

Everything is automatic now. These could literally be flown without a pilot.

Nice! Did you join the Air Force because you would have the chance to do something like this, or did you join for other reasons?

Should I be in the Air Force? My grandpa was in the Air Force. I think it'd be his legacy.
