I live in Canada which sought sovereignty from British Empire through diplomacy!
w00t for peace n love!
As you could predict, Canadian History classes are fairly boring until we talk about foreign things. It's mostly remembering treaties, acts and laws and then remembering who made them and who conflicted with them and then brought it up at a political meeting.
British North America Act, George Etienne-Cartier, Charlottetown Conference etc.

God save our gracious queen
long live our noble queen
God save the queen~

I'm English and my family and ancestry is entirely English to the extent of my knowledge. Down one of the many lines on my mother's side, there is some gypsy background. But whether they were Romanian or Irish or just English or anything else in descent is unknown.

As an English family we were obviously part of the British Empire.

I don't know of any long lost relatives or predecessors of mine who were part of the British Empire out in different areas of the world.
Some relatives of mine were Merchant sailors, but as far as I know the furthest they ever travelled from England was likely to be Ireland and/or France, but they mostly kept to England.
There's probably some chance that I've got some sort of relative who travelled to the Americas, or likely some who went to Australia and New Zealand (Most likely as convicts than well-to-do's I'd imagine).

So, as far as my ancestry goes, it is very likely that my family has forever lived in the British Isles. Possibility of descent from Celts, but equally a chance of descent from Normans. My Family name and all known previous Family names happen to be names belonging to commoners. Nothing lordly or regal. But that doesn't mean there's no chance of Norman descent, just that they would have been Norman commoners.
And then travelling beyond that, who knows. It's all Dark Ages at that point and there would be no way of knowing.

That's sick...

Does Canada still swear fealty to the queen, as in it is still apart of the Commonwealth?  This is probs a dumb question... I apologize in advance.

It's more of a social thing now

Nice rich background you got there. I'd really like to look into my English background sometime.

I am mostly German-Norwegian with some English, Irish, Scotish and have a little a of Native American blood. However my first and last name of Anglo origion. The last name reffering to people who lived west of a river.

According to my friend from Canada they got their independence after World War 2.

I live in Australia, where we have never ever been affiliated with the British empire.

I once was in the British empire.

I still am.

My family was pretty much screwed by Britain because I am Palestinian. The creation of Israel was accomplished with Britain's help, and it's the reason I live in the USA instead of my real country.

I'm English, and on my fathers side as far as we know we are completely English. My grandad made a family tree that he spent hours researching which goes back to 1756! Every single person on it was born in England and stayed in England, there are many interesting people on it, for example my Great great great Grandad was killed in his Pub, they then proceeded to rob the place of all it's money, shame. My family where mostly commoners although we've found a few who rose quite high working in manor houses and one in the army (obviously nothing like general but he did gain a few ranks)

My mothers side however is a huge mix of nationalities, her grandparents come from the Ukraine and Germany, and she spent most of her childhood in germany! her father is Welsh and her mother ''English'' (born in the Ukraine but they moved to England when she was around 3) No-one in her family bothered to make a family tree so we know little else. But the empire probably affected them in some way.

I'm Welsh with a small amount of scottish and danish connections, apparently my great-great-great-great-great grandfather travelled around a lot and captained a ship.
