Not necessarily, Wine is a is an open source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and OpenGL. It's more-so of a compatibility layer, kind of like Windows XP Mode on Windows 7.

Actually, for me, using Ubuntu it's worked every time I've needed it to.

It runs good on my comp through wine if i run it in terminal by -opengl and -debug, but it lags the forget outta itself.

i managed to get my hands on crossover the one day it was free, really not that much different.

Through Wine with 12x CSAA (8x CSAA, 4x MSAA) compared to Windows with the same AA settings, I get a much greater video performance than Windows by running it under Wine, but sluggish mouse movements is easily overcome. Overall I'd go with Wine for the 19 FPS difference, despite the mouse being somewhat sluggish.

i find it to be slower. hm.
i blame intel.
