Author Topic: Advice guide to picking a Operating System: V2  (Read 2204 times)

Basically, a long time ago I made a OS Thread. I admit the OP sucked. Now I'm going to try and make a better OP.

Windows:
Windows Vista:
Successor to Windows Xp, it was released on January 30, 2007. It included many new features to the Windows OS like a new GUI and multimedia tools. Windows Vista primary focus was improved security. Some criticism of Windows Vista is it's high system requirements.
Summary: Don't get Windows Vista if you have a stuffe computer.

Windows 7:
Released on October 22, 2009, it introduced a lot of new features like Vista did. It's new features included a new taskbar, Windows Calendar, Windows Mail, and more.
Summary: Sometimes Windows 7 can cost some money, but it's a pretty good OS all in all

Apple/Mac:
OS X:
OS X is commonly named after big cats like mountain lion. Although OS X commonly has updates the first version was released in 1999. It originally ran on PowerPC-Macs, but in 2006 Intel Macs could run OS X.
OS X V. 10.7 was the first version to have 32 bit and 64 bit Intel processors.

Linux:
Linux is a very diverse system, so there are many types for many different people. There are Linux OS's for server hosters and other stuff. Since it would be hard to show you every single OS that Linux has created, I will give you the link so you can look through it and decide for yourself.

I agree, but some people still have opinons that think Windows Vista are better. I would get bitched at if I didnt include it.

why not talk about windows XP or windows 8?

also, it'd be helpful if you listed the different distributions of linux (ubuntu, xubuntu, debian, red hat, mint, etc.)

Windows 8 beats Vista and 7.

I used to think that vista was better than 7, until I saw it and played with it.

Windows XP is going to be dis-countined in 2014, April.
eh, i'd say a year and a half is still enough room for consideration.

I like to keep my OS's for a while and not have to change them every year.

I would move over to Linux since I find network operating systems loads of fun but Windows has a better global software community.

I agree. It's much harder to find OS support for Linux then Windows.

I don't understand why the continue XP longer than vista, vista was better and fixed after SP1

Simplified simplified guide:

Use what you like.

The end.

Windows 8 is, quite literally, for tablets. If you're too inactive (in terms of watching TV) to see the commercial, Microsoft has created some kind of loving touch-screen laptop that can be folded backwards, and when it is, it can be used as a tablet. Or, you can unfold it and use the keyboard and touchpad.

Thus, it's not entirely BAD, it's just that it's not what gamers want.
