Author Topic: What is one word you thought you were pronouncing right, but was actually wrong?  (Read 1629 times)

For example, I had always pronounced Imgur as im-gur but as it turns out after reading this, I had been pronouncing it wrong the entire time.

So, what is a word(s) that you had apparently been pronouncing incorrectly for quite some time?

i used to pronounce slaanesh as sla-NEESH
wrong wrong wrong

"gif"

apparently everyone else pronounces it as "gif" with the "g" sound instead of "jiff"

Gouda

I always thought it was 'goo-duh', but it's 'gow-duh'. In Dutch, it's actually 'how-duh'.

Most of the Homestuck Trolls' names

i used to pronounce tutorial tote-or-oll but that was a long time ago and i say it normally now

I always say G-I-F with every letter put out.  But every time I say it, people always correct me, saying that it is apparently gif

Also same with GUI I would G-U-I but others say GUI like "gooey"

Mine isn't how I pronounced, but how I spelled it.
I always spelled Wednesday as Wedensday.

I say it 'whens day' :P

I pronounce it "Giff" not "Jiff"

MY WHOLE LIFE IS A LIE

used to pronounce meme as may may.

I've always pronounced this as "jiff".

With me, it would be crap loads of Pokemon whose names I seemingly always pronounce incorrectly, especially if you consult the English dub of the Anime.

Always pronounced Magikarp with a hard "G" sound, where as it's a soft "g" sound as in "Magic"

Also pronounced Gyarados wrong.
"Guy-A-Ra-Dos", is how I pronounced it. Apparantely it's "Ga-Ra-Dos".

Also same with GUI I would G-U-I but others say GUI like "gooey"
I pronounced it as "Goui". Imagine saying "Oui" in French and putting a soft "g" sound in front.

I also have a little bit of a lisp when pronouncing "R's" and "W's", as well as "F" and "Th" sounds.

For example, "Thursday" didn't come out as "Thur", but rather as "Fursday".

used to pronounce meme as may may.
"Meem" as in "Deem", for me.
