A deity such as God/Jehovah/Ala is impossible in that, a being described as "Omnipotent" (All-powerful for those who dont know) would need a power supply, for humans, we convert chemical energy stored in food into energy to move muscles and generate electrical impulses in the synapse in our brains, what makes me believe that an omnipotent being is impossible is that to supply energy for it's body/mind, it would consume more food than exists in our universe.
Intelligent life is, as i consider it, rare because of religion, or anything resembling it, to be truly intelligent as a species and civilization, all of it's members must be able to think coherently on their own, not blindly follow the words of another being, an example is the Bible itself, over 1000 pages that are interpreted through other humans, generally speaking, most humans tend to be greedy or self centered, such as the Pope, any of them through out time, they all have/had reign over the entire catholic religion and have blindly lead people to do their will, the crusades, a holy war waged in the name of "god", was actually waged for the benefit of the Pope, they wanted only one religion, and were willing to murder millions of people to make it so....i think i wandered from the original topic here, let me fix that, as you can see, man kind has been herded around by more than one "holy" text, person or symbol for thousands upon thousands of years, this makes us quite stupid as a species and a collection of civilizations, if we were to kick religion for good, and possibly end more of these silly "Holy" wars, then we could gain a higher status of intelligence.
Also, Dolphins are more intelligent than us because they dont need religion, they have no use for currency, no wars, they, if anything, are the perfect example of a utopian society.
