Author Topic: Programs can't open links  (Read 808 times)

So, let's say I receive a link in steam, or trillian, or my IRC program. And I click it. What happens? "well it opens the link, duh". Yeah, that's what I'd expect too. But it doesn't. It just does nothing, and it's driving me insane. I think it might have to do with a virus I got a while ago that nuked every file association on my PC, yet I managed to fix most of them. Help?

Step 1. Highlight link.

Step 2. Copy link.

Step 3. Paste link in address bar of browser of choice.

He clearly stated he wants the problem fixed. Not a workaround.

well I didn't know of a fix, so I gave him a work around.

usually the link is opened in whatever is defined as your default browser

maybe you uninstalled your default browser? either way, check to see if it's default.

that didn't really need to be said. i'm sure OP knew of this workaround and if he were satisfied with it, he wouldn't have made this topic.

i think this is what we're talking about, as i believe i had this problem a few weeks ago

control panel > default programs > "associate a file type or protocol with a program" > http/s > your favorite web browser

Well maybe we should stop giving workarounds. Because we shouldn't just cope with problems.

Tudoreleuu, what OS do you use?

Edit: if it's Windows 7, follow Blast's post.

oh, well it doesn't make me ignorant for trying.
