But there's a problem. We currently don't have the money to support Obamacare. We're what, 14 trillion dollars in debt? Let's try and actually get out of debt before focusing on social issues.
while that's a reasonable opinion, you seem to have suddenly attempted to change the focus of the argument
gg

Kindergarten teaches you to be kind to others, not be greedy and to attempt to own everyone
that isn't what socialism is????
that's capitalism, silly!

Why do I get the feeling there are some of you who just do not know what Socialism is?

Oh, no!  Someone disagrees with you!  This implies a lack of knowledge which you're so certain you've obtained!

"Social ownership" may refer to cooperative enterprises, common ownership, state ownership, or citizen ownership of equity.

I know what socialism is, but watch out! I'm a Canadian! I should be feared! Ooooooo!

pageloss response to sev:
I wasn't calling Obama a socialist. In fact, he is not a socialist. He is just utterly horrid at spending money and being a president in general.
I was calling our government a bunch of egotistical socialist pissants.
Wasn't it our government who thought of taxing the rich more and taxing the poor less?
This is taxation based on income. i.e. one of the primary ideals behind socialism.
I didn't know what you were trying to say, but calling Obama supporters 'socialist pigs' means you're calling Obama a socialist. If that's not what you meant, you need to learn English before you post here.

"I was calling our government". So like the entire government? Even the republican congressmen? I don't understand what you're trying to say, but the U.S. is not a socialist nation.

Aren't all forms of taxation somewhat based on income? If you think Obamacare is trying to create a classless society, then you're leaning more to calling him a communist than a socialist.

By that logic, any republican president who doesn't attempt to abolish progressive taxes is also a socialist. Would you agree with that?

There is a big line between "Oh, he has something going on that appeals to socialist ideals" and "he is a dead on socialist". Hold on guys Mitt Romney is on.

According to my friend who is an ex-communist says Communism is full Government control of production.

Well then your friend was wrong since that's the definition of socialism lol.

It's both communism and socialism

It's both communism and socialism
Communism states that the means of production are owned by the people through common ownership, as opposed to the government.

Well then your friend was wrong since that's the definition of socialism lol.
He had a copy of the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and has been one for many years so I believe what he says. My understanding of Socialism is that Government(such as Norway) takes control of all utility services and education.
