Author Topic: Annoying bandwagons  (Read 1461 times)

I made this mainly to address one issue that has been bothering me, but you guys can post whatever bandwagons annoy you as well.

My annoyance is that it seems, relatively recently, everyone has to hate the Comic Sans font. I honestly see nothing wrong with it at all and when asking people why they're so against it they never give me a clear answer or just say "Because it's Comic Sans." I know that it shouldn't be used in the wrong situations, like all other fonts, (Example: A business letter written in Comic Sans) but even if people see, for example, a poster for some community picnic or whatevertheforget that is typed in Comic Sans they have to go "Oh god Comic Sans" or "Ew Comic Sans." What also backs up my bandwagon font idea is that nobody will criticize something that's written in a font like Ar Hermann just because it's written in that font, even though it's an unappealing font.
[/minirant]

My personal reason for disliking comic sans is that every single one of my teachers ever has used it on their websites.

I always thought it was just some internet joke I never got.

Most people dislike it because it's so damn over-used, even when used on a poster or whatever it just seems so unprofessional and anyway the majority of people who like it are six.

or every writing thing I had to do from grade K-7 had to be in that font or I failed

So basically the "I don't like it because it's popular, look at how hip I am" approach. Wonderful.

Comic Sans is the most grossly incorrectly used font ever made. It's the generic font for news letters, be it church news letters, school news letters, a news letter from the loving karate gym you went to when you were six yet they never removed you from the mailing list. It's also ugly, it looks bad and isn't easy on the eyes, it's not natural like handwriting but it isn't clear like text, it's in the uncanny valley of fonts. It's as unprofessional as you can get without using loving ms sanscript or joker font. There are tons of reasons people hate comic sans, most of them are the same reasons I hate the smily XD.

Wait, they seriously made you use it?

I don't really care much, but it does get used a lot where it really shouldn't be.

Yeah, and as a foolish stupid-year-old I went along with it

Apparently iPhones change comic-sans to times new roman.

We always had to use times new roman, which seemed right.
Oddly enough that's not even the default font for many MS programs.

I'm going to have to disagree with that. If anything it's much closer to natural handwriting than Times New Roman with it's curved/loose design. I see no problem with it's clarity at all, no less clear than Times New Roman. The overused argument can be applied to other fonts that face no ridicule (Papyrus).

never actually heard anyone say anything about it irl, thought it was just some running joke on the internet or something.

I thought papyrus also applied to the "too overused; stop using it" thing too
unless I missed a recent meeting

(christ this stuff is hard too read)

If Papyrus was ever complained about I sure haven't seen in the sea of Comic Sans hate.
