Famous Works by King

Probably his most famous book of all time, King's book
The Shining was made into a
movie in 1980.
"In 1976, Jack Torrance is an aspiring writer who is attempting to rebuild his marriage and career, both of which have been nearly ruined by two traits inherited from his late father: alcoholism and an explosive temper. During one occasion while drinking, Jack broke his son's arm. This incident shocked him into sobriety, but Jack's temper continued to plague him: he lost his teaching position at a Vermont prep school after assaulting a student. Jack eagerly accepts a job as a winter caretaker at the Overlook Hotel, an isolated resort in the Colorado Rockies. Jack hopes that the seclusion will help him reconnect with his family and give him inspiration and the peace and quiet to help him write a new play. Jack, his wife Wendy, and their five-year-old son, Danny—who has telepathic abilities unknown to his parents—move into the Overlook."

(Based on the 1974
novel by King)
Also a classic horror film,
Carrie is about a girl who is an outcast at her school. At school she is tormented by fellow students, and at home her abusive mother does not offer any consolation. She soon realizes that she has supernatural powers and uses them to get revenge on those who had done her wrong. They are planning on making a
new version of the movie, to be released in 2013. I'll definitely be seeing that.

IT is one of my favorite movies based off of a Stephen King novel. It's based around kids and really focuses on the fear we all had when we were children. The "villain" in this movie is a clown, so you could already guess how this movie goes. Despite the childish feel of the movie, it's quite scary to children and adults alike.
My personal favorite
The Stand takes place in a post apocalyptic world, after a virus known as Captain Trips kills off 99.4% of the population. The survivors come together and attempt to make sense of the new world theyre living in, and are also faced with an evil presence that haunts them wherever they go. This book is told from multiple viewpoints, and what I love about it is that you get to see the story from both the "bad guys" side and the "good guys" side. It was made into a
TV Miniseries, which I watched before reading the book. It's honestly one of the best movies I've ever seen.

I've only started reading a couple of his books but he really is an amazing author. Feel free to ask me to add anything to the OP if you don't see something you like!
