Author Topic: States are petitioning to leave the union. About 4 already met their goal.  (Read 13250 times)

Don't the states have small, individual militaries, already? Or at least something incredibly similar? Texas will have the biggest one, I'm sure, if they do.
militia's? sort of.
they would be no different then any country. they can just trade for stuff
yes but they're smaller, and have a large population, they'll consume too much, and have very little to trade for, and very little money to buy things with.
Additionally, Texas produces a butt load of cotton, from what I've seen.
could be traded with the northern most countries but those countries already have their own cotton farms, and receive enough cotton from countries like Scotland, England, parts of United States, and Canada.

additionally, as Texas were to develop it's own military, it would most likely receive constant conflicts with the local militia and would result in many coups.

This is a lot more simple than you think Ceist, lol.

seem to be under some assumption that the states need a huge federal government. they are supposed to be sovereign anyways.
I believe in state rights, but there always need to be some 25% intervention of the federal government, but they couldn't last like that with a growing population and immigration from Mexico, with such that little amount of farmland and a very warm climate.

Texas already has the Texas Air Guard, which is the largest airforce in the USA other than the USAF.(several states have their own airforces and Texas has a large population of Iraqi Veterans. Also, the large population of gun owners would be a problem. And the fact the Southern states tend to be a bit "murica"

No it's not...

Ceist is almost entirely correct.  They don't have the means to sustain themselves.

The National Guard is a state owned Militia, they answer to the state and in times of need command can be turned over the Federal Government. Kind of like how the Army, Airforce, and Navy can go to war if congress declares it, but the Marines get to placed under the command of the President or Navy.

I'm sure a couple states could sustain themselves for a little bit.

I'm sure a couple states could sustain themselves for a little bit.
hence why I said Texas could sustain it's self for possible 30-40 years, after that it will degrade into a 3rd world country.
another factor that will also result in the downfall, possible for the first 5-10 years of Texas being independent, they would still rely on the USD, which is also made in the US, which they would have to purchase for the time being.

I'm sure a couple states could sustain themselves for a little bit.
>a little bit
Yeah, a little bit.  Texas would collapse.  I'd feel bad for the people there who aren't beyond handicapped, but to those who signed the petition, I really couldn't care less.

I can see it now...

"Texas invades Mexico!"
