based on the people around me in real life
people at my crappy school go "lol i play cod im so cool look my parents bought me jordans wowowow coololol poopularr"
That's the general populace. Being a single step above or beside that doesn't justify anything.
It's true that mathematically I have the most potential in my school (around 800 people in it, I think). I occasionally outsmart my teachers. My social skills are lacking, however, and my work ethic is horrible. I don't consider myself to be all that intelligent anyhow. I regularly call myself stupid, because I think that everyone is.
I guess the larger lesson, though, is that coming off as arrogant is not what you'll want to do at all. It's better to run the risk of not being recognized as a person with actual cognitive capability than to be thought of as some out-of-touch socially incapable dweeb. I conform to society just enough so that I am accepted by most, and I will socialize competently when necessary, but I will never state superiority unless I'm being completely sarcastic and my friends know that. Through all my jokes, my teachers can still see that I innately understand things sometimes that others don't, or that I learn material a bit faster or have covered some of it on my own before. If you can achieve the point where your brain can speak for itself without the assistance of your mouth, that is where you want to be.
