One hundred fifty isn't nearly as many words as you think. One time, I had to cut my essay in half before finishing it because I went way over the one hundred word limit. A more concise essay, but I think I sort of butchered it, when I slashed it like that. This post has seventy-eight words in it, lol. Although I did put the anecdote in mostly to increase the word count and strengthen my point. :P

I would die for an essay that only required 150 words, my Honors English teacher only assigns essays that have to be at the minimum 5 pages, all MLA format.

sounds like school. wait until you're in college. you have a week to write a 1,000 word essay. final draft submitted by 11:59:59 on saturday (if it's assigned on a monday, that is)

1000 words is like 3 hours of writing if you're on task, not too terrible. I wrote about 500 words or so for a speech and 970 words on a 3 paragraph essay.

yeah, it's not much. but some people can't write to save their lives. plus it's generally a 1,000 word minimum.

Almost every essay I write is 500 words or more, and if it's much more it's determined by pages of 12pt, double-spaced, times new roman font
last year i had to write a 10 page essay, but luckily i got to choose the topic

When we get essays its like 2 pages, punctuation has to be good and everything. First it has to be typed to the point its like 2-3 pages on microsoft word, 12 point Times New Roman and then we have to hand copy it. (or vise versa)

I'm in honors English but it focuses less on big-fat-essay skills and more on brown townytical reading.

Well I forgot to mention the rarity of essay assignments, you're right, we do focus more on vocabulary and reading comprehension etc stuff.
We get probably one essay assignment per month
