The male approaches and woos the female by nuzzling her, snorting, and making loud squeaking sounds while he circles her closely.  He may chew her quills.  She responds by turning away and shoving him with her quills raised.  Eventually, if she is receptive, she accepts him and flattens her quills, and then he mounts her in the usual fashion.
