They do contain regular apps, just search for cydia sources on google along those lines.

let's just bare in mind it's not jailbroken and i can't enter DFU mode in order to jailbreak it again.

I think I have a first gen iPod touch.

I remember iOS 1, you had to go on websites and use their web apps.
